Des Moines will host the AAU Junior Olympic Games from July 22, 2014 through August 2, 2014. The United States Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games is the largest gathering of amateur athletes in the United States. Proud of her city’s opportunity to showcase Des Moines to athletes from all over the country, Dr. Jessica Johnson is also delighted to provide quality dental care to her community.
What is the AAU?
The AAU is a non-profit volunteer sports organization that promotes amateur sports through it’s over 500,000 members and 60,000 volunteers across the nation. The AAU was formed in 1888 and historically has worked with Olympic committees to prepare American athletes for international competition. The Junior Olympics began in 1967 as 523 athletes went to Washington, D. C. to compete in the first competition. This year, it is expected that over 16,000 participants will take compete in the Junior Olympics.
